Arshdeep Singh made a huge blunder in India’s recent Asia Cup 2022 match against Pakistan when he dropped a catch of Asif Ali during the death overs of the Pakistani chase. Ultimately, India lost the match by 5 wickets in the Super 4s stage.

Pakistan was set 182 to win the match, which was the second encounter between the two arch-rivals in the Asia Cup, with India winning the first match in the group stages. Mohammad Rizwan made 71 and Mohammad Nawaz made 42 in 20 balls to help Pakistan complete the chase in the last over.

Much of the chase became easy as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a seasoned campaigner gave away 19 runs in the penultimate over, leaving only 7 for Arshdeep to defend in the last over. The young left-arm pacer almost did the unthinkable and even picked a wicket, but the runs were too less for him to defend.

After the loss, Arshdeep copped vile abuse on social media from fans for his dropped catch and was squarely blamed for the loss suffered by the Men in Blue. This is despite the fact India has two more games to qualify for the finals of the tournament.

Angry Indian fans didn’t spare Arshdeep and even brought his family into it, but he also received a flood of support from other fans as well, who know it was only a game of cricket.

Many members of the Indian cricket fraternity took to Twitter to support and back Arshdeep Singh amidst the flood of abuse.
