India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja showcased his strong wit in a press conference ahead of the team’s match against Hong Kong on August 31, (Wednesday). Jadeja’s answer to a reporter asking him to confirm a rumor going rounds left everyone in splits.

Jadeja has been in news recently about his alleged departure from Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, especially after the way he was replaced as captain of the franchise mid-way into the IPL 2022.

Another imaginary news began when he was out injured earlier this year, rumors began doing rounds that he may not be in Team India's reckoning for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. This question was asked by a journalist to the cricketer himself, who left everyone laughing recalling the weirdest rumor he had heard about himself.

The reporter asked Jadeja: "Jaddu bhai. Firstly, tell us the secret behind your success. After IPL gets over, we hear rumors that Jadeja will not play in the World Cup - he has been injured for a year. After that, you return and not only play the India-Pakistan match but give India a big win. How do you handle the pressure when there are so many things being talked about you? Do you get distracted?"

To this, Jadeja replied: "Aap ne toh bohot choti baat kahi ki main nahi hu World Cup mein. Beech mein toh khabar aayi thi ki main marr gaya hu. Toh issey badi khabar toh ho hi nahi sakti. (You heard a very trivial rumor. Some time back I had heard that I had died. There can't be a bigger rumor than that).

So yes, I don't think much about it. My thing is simple - head to the ground, play well and that's all. As far as success goes, it's all about practicing in the nets, working on areas that need improvement and that is what works in the match. Day in, day out, the drill is same - bowling, batting, and fielding."

He played an important role in India’s win over Pakistan in the recent Asia Cup 2022 match, as he scored 35 runs in 29 balls, stitching a 52-run partnership with Hardik Pandya, as India won in the last over with 5 wickets in hand.
