Indian team has an option to change a player in their squad before the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 and, according to the sources, it could be Deepak Chahar, who will be soon seen in action for the first time since February 2022.

The Indian pacer was out for a long time due to various injuries, and his lack of game time has cost him a berth in India's 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, starting on August 27 in the UAE.

However, the pacer has been named as one of the three standby players along with Akshar Patel and Shreyas Iyer and it is believed that if he does well on the Zimbabwe ODI tour, he is likely to be included in the main squad for the upcoming multi-nation T20 tournament.

Meanwhile, according to a senior BCCI selection committee official, the 30-year-old pacer will be included in the India squad for the Asia Cup 2022 if he manages to impress in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, starting on August 18.

He told InsideSport: “Obviously, you can’t straight away select him for the Asia Cup when he is making his return from injury. We have an option to change a player before the tournament. Deepak will have his chance in Zimbabwe. If he does well and gets his rhythm back, we will give it a thought.”

Chahar had suffered a hamstring injury while playing against the West Indies in the white-ball series in February, and he had been recovering since then. After undergoing proper and longer rehabilitation, he is ready to make a comeback in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
