The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has granted Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) an extension to name their squad for the Asia Cup 2022, slated to be held in the UAE from August 27 to September 11.

The deadline for announcing the squad was set for August 8. However, the BCB requested for an extension in the deadline for picking their squad due to several instances of injury.

The board is reportedly awaiting the medical reports before naming their final squad for the multi-nation tournament.

“The long injury list have put us on the backfoot and so we requested the ACC to give some more time to finalize our squad and they have accepted it,” BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told Cricbuzz on Saturday (August 6).

“We are waiting for the medical report and later we will finalize the squad. We will have to submit the squad before August 11,” Jalal added.

Litton Das and Nurul Hasan have been ruled out of the ongoing Zimbabwe tour due to injuries, and their participation in the Asia Cup seems doubtful unless they recover well before the deadline.

Nurul is currently in Singapore to check the condition of his injured finger. On the other hand, Litton is likely to be out of action for four weeks due to a hamstring injury.

The injured players’ list also features Mustafizur Rahman (ankle), Mushfiqur Rahim (thumb), and Shoriful Islam (knee). Moreover, Yasir Ali and Mohammad Saifuddin, who were ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour, will have to undergo a fitness test to be considered for selection.
