Jaiswal replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad as a standby player for India in WTC final.
Young Mumbai batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has had an excellent 2023 so far. After performing well in the domestic cricket, he had his breakout year in IPL 2023 when he scored 625 runs in 14 matches for Rajasthan Royals (RR) including a maiden century and the fastest-ever IPL fifty in 13 balls.
This led to him being called up to the Indian team when Ruturaj Gaikwad backed out of as the standby player for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final to be played in London from June 7-11.
Ruturaj Gaikwad informed the selectors and the BCCI that he won't be able to travel with the Indian players as a reserve player as he is getting married on June 3. That’s when Yashasvi Jaiswal was called up to the Indian team as his replacement.
On Wednesday, ICC shared a glimpse of Jaiswal's first training session with the Indian side. The U19 World Cup winner for India faced the Indian pacers, net bowlers and spinners Akshar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin, who was also with Jaiswal in the Rajasthan Royals (RR), was seen sharing some tips with the young southpaw. Towards the end of the video, Jaiswal was seen spending quality time with Virat Kohli. The former India captain was seen demonstrating batting positions to the 23-year-old.
