Though England lost the second Test against Australia, a day-night affair in Adelaide by a huge margin of 275 runs, keeper-batter Jos Buttler was praised for his amazing rearguard defense as he made 26 runs in 207 balls, while batting for 258 minutes to delay the inevitable.

Coming into day five at 82/4, England was fighting against time to save the game as chasing down the 468-run target was out of the question. However, the Australian bowlers, particularly Jhye Richardson who picked five wickets in an innings, relentlessly pressured the England batting.

Buttler, along with Chris Woakes kept the Australian bowlers at the bay as they added 61 runs for the seventh wicket in 190 balls with Woakes making 44 from 97 balls. Buttler frustrated Australia for a while with a dogged 26 off 207 balls.

He gave the England side a dream of a draw before he got out in the most unfortunate fashion. While trying to punch a short ball to the offside, Buttler who was already deep in the seat, stepped on the off-stump on the bowling of Jhye Richardson in the 110th over.

This was the first time Buttler had been dismissed hit wicket in his 193-innings FC career.
