Team India was completely outplayed by New Zealand in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) as the latter claimed the title with a comfortable 8-wicket win at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

The Indian batters failed to get going in both innings of the WTC final as the subcontinental giants could only muster 217 and 170 in their first and second innings respectively.

A fan asked former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg for the reason behind the Indian batsmen failing at such showpiece events.

Hogg answered the fan’s query in his latest YouTube video as he felt the weight of expectations gets the better of Virat Kohli and Co.

The pressure probably gets to them, the expectations as well. They have a billion fans following them from all around the world. And it means everything to the Indian public. Here in Australia, everyone gets upset if we lose, but we walk away from it, we move on from it in 10 minutes, Hogg said in his YouTube video.

But in India, the fans hold on to it a little bit more. They are passionate. It's a game that they are very dominant at. They have had a lot of success. And they want India to continue that and win those big tournaments,” he added.

The left-arm spinner then talked about how this loss was more of due to the lack of preparation than bowling failure or batting failure.

I also thought, in this Test match, if you look at it, New Zealand had a better of the conditions as they were able to bowl first. I also felt Bumrah and Ishant Sharma were short of a gallop before going in here. So, I think it was more of a preparation than the batting fail and the bowling fail that they had early on in that game,” the 50-year-old signed off.
