New Zealand resumed their innings on 101/2 on day 5 in what was a delayed start. Indian bowlers found new life on day 5 and Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami started bowling fuller and got swing, troubling both Taylor and Williamson at the crease. It also put a brake on the runs.

Meanwhile, Ross Taylor was regularly troubled by Mohammad Shami, as he got the ball to go away from the experienced Kiwi batsman, who also became the first from his country to make 18,000 runs in international cricket during his knock.
On the first ball of 64th over, Mohammad Shami finally got Taylor to play a drive on the up and the ball went in air towards covers. Shubman Gill stationed at the position dived full length to catch the ball and Taylor went back for 11 runs in 37 balls. This was Shami’s first wicket in the WTC 2021 Final.
