While Team India was under quarantine in Southampton, their opponents in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, New Zealand played a two-match Test series against England.

Thus, a lot of fans and cricket experts felt that the Kiwis who will be better adapted to the English conditions, will have a clear edge over Virat Kohli and Co. in the upcoming final at Southampton.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar was the former Indian captain talked about New Zealand being game ready before they arrive at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Certainly. It is all about being match fit, if you are match fit then it is of great help,Gavaskar told Aaj Tak on eSalaamCricket when asked if playing the two-Test series has given New Zealand an advantage over India ahead of the WTC final, which starts on Friday.

After the WTC final, Team India will be playing a five-match Test series against England which is slated to begin from August 4. Hence, the 71-year-old felt that the subcontinent giants should play a County team before taking on England to get match ready.

Even after this World Test Championship final, I would like India to play a County team in the six-week gap that they have before they face England.

No matter how much you practice, you would not be able to face the kind of threat that let's say someone like Kyle Jamieson poses, who bowls from a great height. Regardless of how many throwdowns you get in the nets, you need match practice, if India have that, it will be good,” the legendary batsman signed off.

The WTC final between Team India and Kane Williamson’s New Zealand at Southampton is slated to begin from June 18.
