The showpiece tournament will run from September 30 to November 2.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday (June 2) announced that the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 will be held jointly across India and Sri Lanka, running from September 30 to November 2.
Initially, India was the sole host for the eight-team tournament. However, Colombo has now been added as a neutral venue to stage Pakistan's matches as part of the hybrid model.
Pakistan will not travel to India, necessitating a neutral venue for their games in a situation similar to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 when India’s men team played its matches in Dubai rather than travelling across the border.
This year’s 50-over World Cup will feature eight teams playing 28 league matches in a round-robin format. The selected venues are M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, ACA Stadium in Guwahati, Holkar Stadium in Indore, ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, and R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
While four cities will host matches in India, Sri Lanka has been allotted only one venue. The opening match will be played in Bengaluru featuring host nation India.
The first semi-final is scheduled for October 29 in either Guwahati or Colombo. The second semi-final will take place on October 30 in Bengaluru. The title clash will be held on November 2 in either Bengaluru or Colombo.
Colombo will host the semi-final and final only if Pakistan qualifies for those stages.
The eight participating teams are India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Australia will enter the tournament as defending champions.
The ICC also announced key fixtures for the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England, with ICC Chair Jay Shah reiterating the governing body's commitment to the women's game.
“Fans have shown great support for the women’s game in recent years, and I am sure they will start planning for these showpiece events now that they have key dates and venues," Shah said in a statement.
“Women’s cricket stands at the forefront of our vision, and we are confident that these two upcoming tournaments will not only sustain the incredible momentum we've built in recent years but lift it to greater heights,” he added.
