Indian cricket team clinched the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 title with a resounding eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Sylhet on Saturday (October 15).

Asked to bowl first, the Women in Blue restricted the opposition to a paltry 65/9 in 20 overs. It was a listless batting performance from Sri Lanka as only two players in the line-up managed to reach the double-digit mark.

Renuka Singh starred with the ball for India, claiming three wickets by conceding only five runs in her three overs. Spinners Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2-16) and Sneh Rana (2-13) also returned with impressive bowling figures, taking two scalps each in their four overs.

Chasing the target, India rode on opener Smriti Mandhana’s unbeaten 51 off 25 balls to get over the line with 51 deliveries to spare.

After lifting the coveted trophy, Harmanpreet Kaur and company had a crazy celebration at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. They danced, rolled on the ground, shouted out, and a lot more to rejoice their success.

Taking to Twitter, BCCI Women and Asian Cricket Council posted videos of the jubilant celebration.

Coming to the match, Sri Lanka did well to cross the 50-run mark considering that they were reduced to 32/8 at one stage. Inoka Ranaweera was the top scorer with 18 not out.

Speaking after the game, skipper Harmanpreet hailed her bowlers for their stunning display

“We should credit our bowlers. Our fielding unit was good from ball one and we discussed that we should not give away easy runs. You have to read the wicket and accordingly place the fielders in the right positions. We read the wicket well and position fielders accordingly,” she said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
