Jemimah Rodrigues becomes the first Indian player to play for the Melbourne Stars.
Indian women’s cricket team's young batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been signed up by the Melbourne Stars for the upcoming eighth edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 8) in Australia.
Rodrigues is expected to join the Stars squad after the Women's Asia Cup, slated to be held from October 1 to 16 in Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, September 6, the Melbourne Stars announced the signing of Rodrigues for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League 2022–23 (WBBL 8), starting on October 13, 2022. She has now become the first Indian player to join the Melbourne Stars franchise.
Notably, the young, talented batter was part of the Melbourne Renegades in the last edition of the WBBL, where she scored 333 runs at a strike rate of over 116 in 13 matches.

Announcing Rodrigues’ signing, Melbourne Stars’ General Manager Blair Crouch said: “We have a huge following in India and to add a player of Jemimah's quality to our squad is a huge coup for the club. I'm sure Jemimah will quickly become a fan favorite and we look forward to seeing her as part of the Stars Family in WBBL|08.”
Meanwhile, Rodrigues is excited to join Melbourne Stars in the WBBL 08. She said in an official statement: “I am super excited to be a part of the Stars family. I've been told that I'm the first-ever Indian to sign for the Stars and it is my honor to do so. Melbourne has always been my favorite city in Australia and I can't wait to get back there!”
