Australia defeated India by 9 runs in a nail-biter CWG final at Edgbaston.
The Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 final saw India women clashing with Australia women in a high-octane clash at Edgbaston. The match went down the wire and saw players of both teams giving their best.
But in the end, it was Australia, who held their nerves better and clinched the gold medal by defeating their opposition by 9 runs. Chasing the target of 162 runs, India women had a shaky start but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (65) and Jemimah Rodrigues (33) kept their side in the hunt.
At that moment, it almost seemed they would win the match but Australia came back strongly and took wickets at regular intervals to emerge victorious. In a game that saw almost many stand up and applaud the players of both teams, the Indian men's team was also on their feet.
BCCI shared the picture of Rohit Sharma-led contingent watching the game from Florida with the caption: “Nail-biter at Edgbaston. Senior men’s team following #TeamIndia’s progress in the #B2022 Final.”
Veteran batter Dinesh Karthik also posted the picture of the group, lauding the Women’s team for the fight they showed. He said: Y'all kept us glued to the screen! Very well played throughout the tournament and extremely proud of you #TeamIndia.
