Harmanpreet Kaur named India's captain for white-ball tour of Sri Lanka

Harmanpreet will lead India on white-ball tour vs Sri Lanka with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy.

Harmanpreet Kaur has been appointed the captain of India women’s ODI team for the forthcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka tour, after former skipper, Mithali Raj announced her retirement from international cricket on Wednesday.

BCCI announced the Indian squad for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, where Harmanpreet was named as the ODI captain. Already the T20I captain, the 33-year-old will now lead the team in both the white-ball formats, with young opener Smriti Mandhana as her deputy.

“The All-India Women’s Selection Committee met on Wednesday to pick the squads for India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. India will play three T20Is beginning June 23rd and as many ODIs in Dambulla and Kandy respectively," BCCI stated on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Mithali Raj decided to bid farewell to her international cricket career on Wednesday and confirmed it through a social media post. 

Mithali put an end to her career as the highest run-scorer in Women’s ODIs. Making her debut in 1999 against Ireland, Mithali played for the national team for over two decades and represented India in 232 ODIs, scoring 7805 runs at an average of 50.68.

She played 12 Tests and 89 T20Is for India, scoring 699 and 2364 runs respectively.
