After a little blip in the second game against hosts New Zealand, the Indian team is back to winning ways in the ongoing Women’s World Cup.

The Mithali Raj-led side on Saturday (March 12) outplayed West Indies in all departments and registered a thumping 155-run victory to get their campaign back on track.

In the match held at Seddon Park, Hamilton, the Women in Blue piled up a mammoth 317/8 in their 50 overs.

Opener Smriti Mandhana (123 off 119 balls) and vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur (109 off 107 balls) starred with the bat, hitting scintillating centuries each and forging a partnership of 184 runs for the fourth wicket.

Chasing the target, West Indies got off to a brilliant start as the duo of Deandra Dottin (62 off 46) and Hayley Matthews (43 off 36) put on 100 runs for the opening wicket in quick time.

Sneh Rana drew the first blood for India by dismissing Deandra Dottin and West Indies’ innings collapsed thereafter. They lost their next nine wickets for 62 runs and the innings folded for 162 in 40.3 overs. It was a listless batting performance as no one from the middle and lower order stepped up to the plate.

For India, Sneh Rana starred with the ball, returning with impressive figures of 3-22 in her 9.3 overs. Meghna Singh also claimed two scalps while Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Jhulan Goswami, and Pooja Vastrakar chipped in with wicket apiece.

Cricket experts on Twitter lauded the Indian team for their stunning display against West Indies and praising words were specially reserved for Harmanpreet and Mandhana.
