India women to open their tournament against Pakistan on March 6.
Indian Women’s team captain Mithali Raj, on Saturday (February 26), confirmed that batter Harmanpreet Kaur will be her deputy in the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup 2022.
The Women's World Cup 2022 will be played in New Zealand from March 4-April 3 with India Women kick-starting its campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on March 6.
Mithali Raj during a virtual press conference: “Deepti being picked as the vice-captain for the last two ODIs was the choice of the selectors and the BCCI. Harmanpreet is the vice-captain for the World Cup.”

About her advice to the young girls, the skipper said: “The only advice I would tell the young players is to enjoy the big stage because if you pile up the pressure you may not be playing the best that the team and you would want to do in the World Cup.”
She signed off by saying, “The batting department has come together, the bowling unit has taken a bit of time, We did not have a camp in India because of the rising COVID-19 cases, so this series against New Zealand was important in terms of preparation for the World Cup.”
Notably, India had suffered a 1-4 defeat in the recent ODI series against New Zealand Women after losing the one-off T20I to the hosts. Kaur was part of the final ODI that India won by 6 wickets.
