Indian women’s wicketkeeper Indrani Roy recalled the tips her idol MS Dhoni gave her during a training session in Ranchi last year.

BCCI on Friday (14th May) announced the India women’s team squad for the upcoming tour of England where the team will play a one Test match and a series of 3 WODI matches and 3 WT20I matches.

The latest entrant in the squad is young 23-year-old wicketkeeper batswomen Indrani Roy, who hails from Liluah in West Bengal’s Howrah district, and moved to Jharkhand a few years ago and has been a regular member of the state team.

However, during her state assignment, she came in contact with her idol MS Dhoni. In an interview with Sportstar, Indrani Roy revealed that during a training session in Ranchi last year she had a long conversation with a former Indian skipper on what she can do to improve her game.

She added that his advice to work on her reflexes has helped her a lot in improving her game and every time she steps on the field she tries to remember his tips.

“During a training session in Ranchi sometime last year, I had a long conversation with Mahi Sir about how to improve my game and he had told me that I should ensure that I improve my reflexes and movement in the five-meter radius.

“For wicketkeepers, that’s a key thing and he advised me that I should try and get better. That actually helped me. Learning a thing or two from a legend like Mahi Sir is a privilege and his advice actually helped me improve my game. Every time I hit the ground, I try to remember his tips,” Indrani Roy told Sportstar.

Roy further said that she is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with senior players and learn from them and she will try to give her best.

“Hard work has paid off. I am looking forward to sharing the dressing room with the senior players and learn from them. This will be my first outing with the national team and if I get a chance in the final XI, I will try and do my best,” she said.

Indrani Roy finished as the leading run-scorer in the Senior One-day Competition as she amassed a total of 456 runs.
