WI v IND 2019: Shreyas Iyer "flexible" regarding his spot in India's middle-order

Iyer is deemed for responsibilities at No.4 during the ongoing West Indies ODI series.

Shreyas Iyer understands, he can't take anything for granted despite featuring in India's playing XI ahead of KL Rahul for the eventually washed out Guyana ODI against West Indies on Thursday (August 8).

Hence, the right-hand batsman is focussed entirely over his game and intends to make most of the opportunity in Trinidad where the last two games of the three-match series will be played on Sunday (August 11) and Wednesday (August 14).

"Personally, I am not thinking about batting only at No.4. I want to be someone who is very flexible batting at any number or if you go into any situation you should be able to grab that opportunity and make the best use of it," Iyer, who was dropped from the limited overs set-up in March last year after only six ODIs and six T20Is, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo

"The way the team is playing currently, it's totally amazing. If one doesn't perform, the next one raises his hand and he takes the responsibility to take the team through and this is what has been happening throughout the year," the 24-year-old added.

India had to train indoors on the eve of the game following heavy rains in Port of Spain. However, Iyer is confident of doing well as he had a fruitful tour of the Caribbean earlier with India A, scoring 187 runs in four innings during the 50-over series.

"It's going to be another two opportunities for me to make the best use of it. Hopefully, this also doesn't rain off. We are hardly getting any net practice."

"I am eager to go out there and carry forward the momentum which I got from my India A matches. Looking forward to a good series finish," he signed off.
