India produced a complete performance to rout Sri Lanka by 82 runs in Dubai, knocking their opponents out and firing themselves back into contention to qualify for the semifinals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Opting to bat first, India racked up a massive total of 172/3 on the board, thanks to key contributions from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (52 off 27) and the opening duo of Smriti Mandhana (50 off 38) and Shafali Verma (43 off 40).

In reply, Sri Lanka’s innings folded for a paltry 90 in 19.5 overs. It was a listless batting display as no one in the line-up managed to cross the 30-run mark. Kavisha Dilhari was the top scorer with 21 off 22 balls.

Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana starred with the ball for India, claiming three wickets each by conceding 19 runs in their four overs. Renuka Singh Thakur (2-16) also returned with a couple of scalps while Shreyanka Patil (1-15) and Deepti Sharma (1-16) chipped in with one wicket each.

With this victory, India moved to second place in Group A with four points from three games. Defending champions Australia sit in the top spot, having won both their games in the tournament so far.

Cricket fraternity members lauded the Harmanpreet-led side for their stellar all-rounder showing to stay in the race for semifinals.
