India's T20 World Cup winners returned home on Thursday (July 4).
The newly crowned T20 World Champions, Team India returned home on Thursday (July 4) to a rapturous welcome first in the national capital, Delhi, and then in Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma & co. finally reached home on a chartered flight after winning the title by defeating South Africa on June 29, having been stuck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl which forced the airport to be shut.
The T20 World Cup winners met PM Narendra Modi at his residence in Delhi, before boarding another chartered flight to Mumbai, where they took an open bus ride amidst thousands of fans.
With the parade ending at a packed Wankhede Stadium where the gates were open to let the fans be part of the celebrations, the team was then felicitated by the Indian cricket board with a cheque of INR 125 crore.
Despite a very tiring schedule, the players were seen high on energy as they danced to popular songs and then took a lap of honour on the ground post the felicitation ceremony.
Virat Kohli, who retired from T20Is after becoming the Player of the Final for his knock of 76 off 59 balls, led the 'Vande Mataram' chants as the DJ played AR Rahman's 'Maa Tujhe Salaam' with other players joining in including vice-captain Hardik Pandya, and captain Rohit Sharma.
