The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash reward of Rs 125 crore for the Indian cricket team after they won the 2024 T20 World Cup title.

India defeated South Africa in the final of the tournament in Barbados on Saturday by 7 runs and ended their 11-year drought of ICC trophies. This was also their second T20 World Cup win after 17 years as they had won the inaugural edition in 2007.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah reveals it was a collective decision of the office bearers to reward the side for ending the long wait for the title. He also confirmed that the prize money would be shared by the players, support staff, coaches, and the selectors.

We last won the title in 2007 and won it after nearly 17 years. The decision on the prize money was collectively taken by the BCCI office bearers. We were the No.1 ranked side across formats two months ago. Cricket is treated like a religion in our country and our boys won the tournament which was played by twenty teams, so we need to do something for them.

As far as Rs 125 crore is concerned, it will cover the players, support staff, coaches, and selectors as well, Everyone,Shah said as per PTI.

The BCCI secretary also confirmed that senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and others will be available for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

The way this team is progressing, our next target is to win the WTC final and Champions Trophy. There will be a similar squad playing there. The seniors will be there," said Shah.

The Indian cricket team is currently stranded in Barbados because of the hurricane as the airport has been shut and all outgoing flights have been cancelled.
