Pakistan cricket team has been eliminated from the ongoing T20 World Cup in the group stage itself. To stay alive in the Super 8 race, the 2009 champions needed Ireland to beat the United States in Florida. However, inclement weather played spoilsport as the match ended in a no-result, pushing USA to the next round alongside India from Group A.

The Men in Green paid the price for a Super Over defeat against USA in their campaign opener, followed by a nervy six-run defeat at the hands of arch-rivals India.

Amid the debacle, the reports of rift and grouping have also emerged from the camp, much to the disappointment of the Pakistani fans.

Meanwhile, former all-rounder Shahid Afridi on Tuesday (June 18) took a dig at current skipper Babar Azam, revealing that there was unrest within the team during Pakistan’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2009 campaign but the leadership of Younis Khan was what helped bring the side together and take them to the title.

Afridi’s post, however, wasn’t well received by the Babar fans. They shared an old video on social media regarding Afridi allegedly conspiring against the then captain Younis.

In the clip, Younis Khan alleged that Shahid Afridi could have been conspiring against him since he was not the captain of the side.

Pakistan salvaged some pride by winning their last T20 World Cup 2024 group match against Ireland on June 16. However, they suffered a batting collapse before Babar Azam rescued his side and sealed a scrappy win in the chase of 107.
