Pakistan captain Babar Azam was advised not to play T20 cricket by former India captain Kris Srikkanth after his poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan was knocked out of the race for Super 8s and they ended their journey with a win over Ireland.

In the match against Ireland, Babar played a vital role, scoring an unbeaten 32, helping his team avoid another embarrassing loss in their final game at the T20 World Cup.

Babar Azam has 4145 runs in 123 T20Is with 3 centuries and 26 fifties but has a strike rate of 129.08. Even in T20 cricket, Babar has made 10942 runs in 304 matches, but at a strike rate of 129.

Pakistan's players, particularly captain Babar Azam, were heavily criticized for their lackluster performance throughout the tournament.

Kris Srikkanth, a former India cricketer, has expressed severe criticism of Babar Azam's position in T20 cricket.

"Captain Babar Azam. I don't think he should play T20 cricket. Maybe a good Test cricketer. This is my opinion. Frankly speaking. You can't do all these tuk-tuking all the time,” Srikkanth said on Star Sports.

Although Babar recently eclipsed India's top batter Virat Kohli as the leading run-scorer in the T20 format, Srikkanth argued that this accomplishment is overshadowed by Babar's lower strike rate.

"You talk about stats - 4000 runs Babar Azam, 4000 runs Virat Kohli, 4000 runs Rohit Sharma. His strike rate is 112-115. What are you talking about?" Srikkanth added.
