India became the third team to qualify for the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024, as they defeated the USA on June 12. This match was played at the Nassau County Cricket Ground, which hosted its last game before demolition.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Steven Taylor (24) and Nitish Kumar (27) were the top scorers for the USA as they made 110/8 in 20 overs. For India, Arshdeep Singh took 4/9, and Hardik Pandya took two wickets.

In response, Saurabh Netravalkar of the USA hurt India badly with the quick wickets of Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3). Rishabh Pant (18) and Suryakumar Yadav brought some stability, but Ali Khan gave the USA a peek by dismissing Pant.

But then Suryakumar (50*) and Shivam Dube (31*) added 70 unbeaten runs for the 4th wicket to take India to the win in 18.2 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Arshdeep Singh was the Player of the Match for his 4/9.

With this win, India qualified for the Super 8s, becoming the third team after South Africa and Australia to do so.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for the application Indian batters showed on this pitch and lauded them on social media.
