Ahead of his team’s T20 World Cup 2024 clash against the start-studded Indian side, USA batter Aaron Jones said that they will treat it like a normal game.

Having won their first two Group A matches against Canada and Pakistan, the tournament co-hosts are in a good position to qualify for the Super 8 stage.

USA will take on India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday (June 12).

Addressing the media on the eve of the game, Jones sounded quite confident as he said they have beaten good teams like India in the past.

"I think we're going to treat it like a normal game. We know India is a good team, but we've beaten good teams before. We don't want to play on names or teams or anything like that. We've beaten good teams in the past. So definitely going to go hard tomorrow against India," Jones told reporters.

"We always plan before every game. We have our team meetings and we have our plans as a team. The coach has his ideas about how to play against all the different teams. So, it's going to be the same thing against India. We have our team meetings and stuff, and we'll come up with the best possible plan," he added.

Aaron Jones’ comments in the pre-match presser impressed veteran India spinner Ravichandra Ashwin, who tweeted: “A sportsman’s hunger to compete and be the best brings out this attitude and that is something we must admire.”

During the press conference, Jones also said that the India-origin players in the USA camp, who at some stage in their lives had played cricket with some of the current Indian players, would be excited to link up with their former teammates.

"They're pretty excited to be honest. This is the first time USA will be playing against India. So many guys in our team are from India they actually played against and with so many guys back in the past, so they definitely (would) be excited to play against some friends for sure," he stated.

Jones also hoped cricket would be able to find much bigger space in the hearts of American sports lover after this World Cup.

"With cricket being one of the biggest sports in the world, it's only a matter of time before a majority people come on board," he said.

"America is a place where people love sports. Obviously, this World Cup is going to open the eyes of a lot of people and then in a few years, you have cricket in the Olympics that's a very big thing as well. I think everything is on the rise right now," he further remarked.
