India and Pakistan are due to square off in New York on June 9.
Ahead of the marquee encounter, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar extended his best wishes to both teams, saying that their encounters in the 50-over and 20-over World Cups have always been thrilling and exhilarating.
While the Men in Blue will enter the big match on the back of an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Ireland in New York, Pakistan will look to bounce back against the arch-rivals after suffering a humiliating against USA in their campaign opener in Dallas.
"India versus Pakistan has always been a big match and exhilarating. My first World Cup clash against them was in Australia. The number of WC matches we have played against them are all exciting and have tight finishes which people have enjoyed. Coming to the T20 WC from 2007 to 2022, all these matches have been tight and exhilarating as well. I would like to wish both of the teams the best of luck, though my best wishes will be slightly more towards India," Tendulkar said while speaking to the media at a DP World event in New York.
Historically, India have dominated Pakistan in T20 World Cups, with the latter securing victory only once in seven games.
Pakistan’s record in even worse in the ODI World Cup as they are yet to defeat their bitter-rivals in eight attempts.
In their last T20 World Cup meet-up two years ago, India had defeated Pakistan by four wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Chasing 160 to win, the Men in Blue were in dire straits at 31/4 after 6.1 overs. Amid the pressure situation, Virat Kohli rose to the occasion as he smashed 82* off 53 balls to take India over the line.
