There is a lot of buzz and excitement around the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, slated to be held in the USA and West Indies from June 1 to June 29.

With less than four weeks remaining for the marquee event, West Indies have received a terror threat to the tournament from North Pakistan, Cricbuzz reported.

However, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has reassured the participating teams about all safety measures.

"Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries," read the terror threat, as quoted in the report.

CEO of CWI, Jonny Graves, has brushed off all concerns and fears related to security. "We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," Graves told Cricbuzz.

"We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," Graves added.

Similar reports have surfaced in the Caribbean media as well. The 'Daily Express' quoted Trinidad Prime Minister Keith Rowley about plans in place by security agencies to combat any such threats.

The Cricbuzz report further claimed that "the Barbados regional security officials are monitoring potential threats to the ICC event" and that "intelligence of a potential threat to the World Cup has been received through Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) through the media group 'Nashir Pakistan'."

Barbados, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago are due to stage the T20 World Cup 2024 games in the Caribbean islands.
