Virat Kohli has scored over 900 runs across all three formats at the Adelaide Oval.
Virat Kohli’s fireworks continued in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022, as the dashing right-hander smashed another fifty to not only script history but also help Team India keep alive their semifinal hopes on Wednesday (November 2).
On Wednesday, Kohli played another stunning knock of unbeaten 64 off 44 balls to help the Indian team post a commanding total of 184/6 runs in their Super 12 match against Bangladesh and eventually win the match by 5 runs to keep them in the race for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022.
With his brilliant knock at Adelaide Oval, Kohli became the highest run-scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup, and he is currently the leading run-scorer in this tournament with 220 runs in 4 matches.
After India v Bangladesh Super 12 match, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar said that the Adelaide Oval is probably Kohli's favorite ground, where he has so far scored 907 runs at an average of 75.58 across 14 international innings.
He also recalled the former Indian skipper’s knocks that came at a time when India needed those runs the most at Adelaide Oval.
Sunil Gavaskar told India Today: “I think every player has a favorite ground. A ground where he feels comfortable. The wides of the ground are very good. When the crowd comes in, they know they are going to support you. I think for Kohli, it is the Adelaide ground.”
The former Indian skipper continued, “That’s where he got his first Test century, that’s where he got so many runs. That’s where he got a century in each innings as a captain. That’s where he got a hundred against Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup.”
Gavaskar signed off by saying, “And all these runs were scored when India needed those runs badly. That certainly gives him the belief that whenever he comes to Adelaide, he will get those runs. And he showed that again today with that innings.”
Notably, Kohli himself also admitted his special affection for the Adelaide Oval. The Indian star said that he loves playing in Adelaide, and it makes him feel at home.
Kohli had said, “I absolutely love playing in this ground. Right from the nets at the back, as soon as I enter, it makes me feel at home. That knock at MCG was meant to be, but when I come here, it's like I'm meant to come to Adelaide and enjoy my batting.”
