Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram said that he was taken aback when Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said that his team was not here to win the T20 World Cup 2022 and was not the favorites in their match against India in Adelaide on November 2nd.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Al Hasan said that Bangladesh will be looking to upset India on Wednesday.

"Well, as I said earlier in one of the Bangla question, India is one of the favorites. They came here to win the World Cup. We are not favorites and we didn’t come here to win the World Cup. You can understand the situation. If we win against India, it will be called an upset and we will try to play our best cricket and try to make an upset," Shakib Al Hasan said on Tuesday.

T20 World Cup 2022: ‘Can't take any team lightly’- Rahul Dravid says after Shakib’s ‘India is favorites’ remark

In an interaction with A Sports, Wasim Akram was not happy with what Shakib Al Hasan said, mentioning that as a captain you make subtle or confident remarks ahead of a big game. Akram added that it shows that Al Hasan knows they won't win the game before the first ball is bowled.

"I was taken aback by his comments. As a skipper, when you have a chance of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals, and that too against a strong team like India, you make certain statements that are subtle or confident. This shows that even before the game, Shakib, in the back of his mind, knows that they are not winning the game. But when you head into a big game, as a skipper, you've got to be positive. You should have the mindset that we can win this," said Akram.
