England batted first and posted 179/6 vs New Zealand in a must-win game in Brisbane.
Thanks to 73 from Buttler and 52 from Alex Hales and their 81-run opening partnership, England posted 179/6 in 20 overs. The only other batter to reach double-figures was Liam Livingstone with 20 runs. Lockie Ferguson picked two wickets, while Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi were also amongst the wickets.
In reply, England’s Chris Woakes struck early as he got rid of the dangerous Devon Conway who made 3 runs in 9 balls. He got out trying to muscle a short ball on the leg side, into fine leg territory.
Unfortunately, he only managed to edge the ball which went further legside and Jos Buttler had to dive full length to his right to catch the ball and send Conway back.
