With two days to go for their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign, hosts Australia have been forced to re-shuffle their squad with back-up wicketkeeper Josh Inglis ruled out of the tournament due to a hand injury.

Inglis hurt his hand while playing golf in Sydney on Wednesday (October 19) and the defending T20 World Cup champions have decided to take no risks and removed him from the 15-member squad.

Josh Inglis’ injury has opened the door for all-rounder Cameron Green. Having made his international debut in December 2020, Green has represented Australia in 14 Tests, 12 ODIs and seven T20Is so far, scoring over 1000 runs and claiming 32 wickets.

During the T20I tour of India last month, the 23-year-old impressed one and all with his batting exploits. In the absence of David Warner, he opened the batting with skipper Aaron Finch and registered scores of 61, 5 and 52 in three matches.

While Josh Inglis is a talented batter, his main role in the Australia squad was as a back-up wicketkeeper to Matthew Wade. He probably would have featured in the tournament in case of Wade’s injury.

Australia’s opening match at the T20 World Cup 2022 is against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday (October 22) night.

Australia’s revised squad: Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
