Danish Kaneria suggested Indian players to learn from Mitchell Starc.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been blamed by many for the recent injuries in the Indian camp ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, and now former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has joined the chorus on the matter.
Jasprit Bumrah had already missed Asia Cup 2022 and then was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a stress reaction in his back before Ravindra Jadeja’s setback in the UAE, and then most recently, Deepak Chahar – the standby player for the mega ICC event – was also ruled out of the tournament.
While many believe that injuries broke out just before the big tournaments because of Indian players’ heavy involvement in the IPL, Kaneria suggested that the Indian team management must curtail the number of matches key players like Bumrah play in the IPL and give them adequate rest.
Danish Kaneria on his YouTube channel: “It is unfortunate for Deepak Chahar. He performed well with ball and with bat and was becoming a contender for Australia. But then injuries are not in our hands and that is what has happened with him. He is very injury prone and that needs to be looked into.”
He further explained how Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc gave priority to national duty by not participating in the IPL 2022 and said that the Indians can learn from him.
Kaneria signed off by saying, “Mitchell Starc didn't play the IPL and kept himself fit and ready for the World Cup. This is called giving priority to national duties. A big bowler like Jasprit Bumrah is not part of the team now. He wasn't available for the Asia Cup either -and that made a huge difference. Now, before a major event like the T20 World Cup, he is not available. Cut down the number of matches that you play in the IPL and in international dead rubbers. Keep him ready for international events.”
