Sri Lanka will have to play in the qualifying round first to make it into the main Super 12s round.
Sri Lanka, who recently won the Asia Cup 2022 tournament, is yet to qualify for the T20 World Cup main draw and will have to play in the qualifying round first in order to make it into the Super 12s round.
The Dasun Shanaka-led side has been placed in Group A of the qualifying round along with Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. Sri Lanka will play the tournament's opening match against Namibia in Geelong on October 16.
As for the squad, most of the players from the Asia Cup 2022 feature in it. However, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, and Asitha Fernando miss out on the trip down under. Dinesh Chandimal has also been named in the standby players' list only.
Sri Lanka has named Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara in the 15-member squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, but their participation will be subject to their fitness ahead of the tournament.
Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama, Dinesh Chandimal, Binura Fernando, and Nuwanidu Fernando are named as players on standby. But only Bandara and Jayawickrama will travel with the squad to Australia.
Dilshan Madushanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Jeffrey Vandersay retain their places after coming in for the Asia Cup. Dushmantha Chameera's ankle injury hasn’t apparently healed completely and his return will be subject to fitness.
