England won T20 World Cup in 2010 under the leadership of Paul Collingwood.
Australia batting great Michael Hussey and former bowling coach of the Australian team, David Saker, are all set to join England’s coaching staff ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, starting on October 13.
On Wednesday, September 14, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that they have roped in the services of Hussey and Saker in two different roles with the team on the recommendations of their white-ball head coach, Matthew Mott.
Hussey has been named England’s white-ball team’s consultant for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, while Saker will join the Three Lions for the upcoming T20I tour of Pakistan later this month.
Hussey will assist England’s support staff, headed by Mott, in the upcoming showpiece event.
ECB said in an official release on Wednesday: “England Men's white-ball Head Coach Matthew Mott has enlisted the support of former England bowling coach David Saker and Chennai Super Kings batting coach and former Australian international Michael Hussey for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October and November.”
The release added: “Saker, England Men's bowling coach from 2010 to 2015, will join the tourists in Pakistan for the seven-match tour preceding the World Cup. Hussey, 47, who had a stellar career as a middle-order batsman for Australia in all three formats, will join the England set-up for the World Cup.”
Notably, the seven-match T20I series between Pakistan and England will start on September 20 in Karachi, while Jos Buttler’s team kickstarts its T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against Afghanistan on October 22 in Perth.
