Pakistan won the T20 World Cup in 2009.
Waqar Younis believes Pakistan will win the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia because the Men in Green have the right batting and bowling attack for the conditions.
The former Pakistan head coach believes that the bouncy pitches will favor their batters in the T20 World Cup 2022, to be held from October 16 to November 13 in Australia this year. The legendary bowler also believes that Babar Azam will be a key batter for Pakistan in the mega event.
Waqar told ICC Digital: “We (Pakistan) stand a really good chance of doing well at this World Cup. The pitches in Australia are generally very good batting pitches and Pakistan do have good batters who can really play well in these conditions.”
He continued, “Babar (Azam) is definitely going to be the key batter at the top of the order," he said. "I think he (Babar) will have the impact that he has always had and then, of course, Mohammad Rizwan is playing very well and the bowling attack they have got is one of the best in the world.”
Waqar also stated that Pakistan has a strong pace attack led by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf and that they can combine spinners Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz to make the team even stronger for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2022.
He signed off by saying, “We have tried about six or seven fast bowlers in the last year or so and they are all going really well. Pakistan's fast bowling attack is very good and they can mix it up with Shadab and Nawaz as they are good spinners also.”
Notably, Pakistan won the T20 World Cup in 2009 under the captaincy of Younis Khan, and they will kick off their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign on October 23rd against India at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
