Australia won their maiden T20 World Cup title beating New Zealand in the final.
Well, they finally won the tournament with a telling performance as they chased down 172 runs with 7 balls and 8 wickets to spare to hand New Zealand another heartbreaking loss in a white-ball ICC event final.
The tournament proved to be a major success, as the on-field action provided the fans both in the stadium and those watching at home with plenty of entertainment. The cricketers also had exceptional performances and today, TEAM COC presents the Team of the T20 World Cup 2021 tournament comprising of the eleven topmost performers who made the tournament exciting.
David Warner of Australia was named the Player of the Tournament and was the second-highest run-getter with 289 runs to his name with 3 half-centuries. To partner him at the top, will be Pakistan’s mercurial Mohammad Rizwan who was one of the cornerstones of Men in Green’s success in league stages.
Babar Azam was the highest run-getter in the tournament with 303 runs with 4 half-centuries and a highest score of 70. He led Pakistan from the front as they qualified for the semi-finals undefeated in the league stages, beating the likes of India, Afghanistan, and eventual finalists New Zealand in the process.
Jos Buttler scored the lone century of the tournament averaging 89.66 for his 269 runs and joining him in the middle order will be the Player of the Final, Mitchell Marsh who took the full advantage of batting at no.3 spot. He made 185 runs at a strike rate of 146.82 including the 77* in the final of the tournament.
Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa was the joint second-highest wicket-taker with 13 scalps in 7 matches and took the only five-wicket haul in the tournament, 5/19 which came against Bangladesh.
As for the fast bowlers, Anrich Nortje bowled extremely fast and managed to haul 9 wickets in 5 matches as South Africa won 4 out of five games in the league stages.
Josh Hazlewood of Australia registered the joint best bowling figures in a T20 World Cup final when he took 3/16 against New Zealand and overall ended with 11 scalps in 7 matches.
Trent Boult of New Zealand took 13 wickets in 7 matches with a best of 3/17 and despite all his efforts, the Kiwis failed to win their maiden white-ball ICC trophy.
