He said Scotland have to find a way to improve their A team structures at home.
Captain Kyle Coetzer believes that Scotland has learned a lot by playing against top teams in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and hopes it will help his team to show more maturity in the next year’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
He further said that Scotland wanted to learn and gain experience on a bigger stage with an immediate goal of reaching the Super 12s of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and they did.
His comments came after Scotland’s 72-run loss to Pakistan in their last game in the T20 World Cup 2021 on November 7.
Coetzer said at the post-match press conference, “Yeah, as a team we want to showcase the skills that we have. We also wanted to gain as much experience as we possibly could against these teams that we faced in the Super 12s. Reaching the Super 12s was our immediate goal.”
He added, “We needed to learn as much as we possibly can from these games because 12 months down the line, we've got another World Cup to go to and show more maturity.”
The skipper also feels having played in the 50-over World Cup in Australia back in 2015 will help Scotland in the next edition of the T20 World Cup 2022.
He said, “Yes, it's going to be in different conditions so we have to factor that in, but we now know because we've experienced it, we now know what to expect because it had been a number of years since we played at a World Cup. We didn't manage to get to the group stages then. A huge achievement to get through to the Super 12s, and that's going to put us certainly in a better place moving forward.”
Coetzer also insisted that his team needs to be bold and brave while saying the structure back home needed a lift to improve and grow the game in the country.
He signed off by saying, “When we go home, we have to be -- I've mentioned it before, we have to be bold and brave to make sure we push our whole organization forward. We have to find a way to improve our A team structures when we're at home.”
