South Africa got knocked out of the T20 World Cup on account of net run-rate.
Asked to bat first, South Africa piled up a massive 189/2 in their allotted 20 overs on the back of Rassie van der Dussen’s 60-ball 94* and Aiden Markram’s unbeaten 52 off 25 balls.
For England, the spin duo of Moeen Ali (1-27) and Adil Rashid (1-32) managed to pick up one wicket each.
In order to qualify for the semi-final, South Africa needed to restrict England to 131 but the Proteas couldn’t. As a result, Australia became the second team after England to make it to the last-four stage from Group 1.
During the chase, England looked threatening in patches but no batters managed to capitalize on a good start. Moeen Ali top scored with 27-ball 37 while David Malan hit 33.
In the bowling department, Tabraiz Shamsi (2-24) returned with impressive figures in his four overs. While Kagiso Rabada (3-48) claimed a hat-trick in the last over of England’s innings, he was quite expensive with the ball.
Dwaine Pretorius (2-30) also picked up a couple of wickets as South Africa restricted England to 179/8.
Cricket experts on Twitter praised the South African team's brave effort even though they couldn’t qualify for the semis.
