West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo confirmed he will retire at the end of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021, following the side's 20-run defeat against Sri Lanka on Thursday (November 4) which ended their slim hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Bravo, while speaking at the post-match Facebook Live show by the ICC, said, “I think the time has come. I’ve had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I’m very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long.

“To win three ICC trophies, two with my captain (Daren Sammy) on the left here. One thing I am proud about is that the era of cricketers we had we were able to make a name for ourselves on the global stageand not only do that but have silverware to show for it.” he added.

Bravo also spoke about what the future holds for West Indies cricket and how he wishes to pass on his experience to the youngsters.

He said, “For me now I want to try and pass on whatever experience and information I have with the younger playersI think in the white ball formats West Indies cricket have a bright future and it's important for us to keep supporting the guys and keep encouraging them.

Bravo, while reflecting on the disappointing campaign for West Indies in the UAE which currently sees them just above Bangladesh in Group 1 with one win from four games with one more left against Australia on Saturday.

“It wasn't the World Cup we expected, it wasn't the World Cup we wanted as players. We shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves, it was a tough competition, we should keep our heads high.”

Bravo was part of West Indies' two T20 World Cup winning teams in 2012 and 2016. He has played in 90 T20Is, picking up 78 wickets and scoring 1245 runs after making his debut in the format in 2006.
