South Africa and Sri Lanka locked horns in the 25th match of the T20 World Cup 2021 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday (October 30).

Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka got bowled out for 142 in 20 overs. Opener Pathum Nissanka was the lone warrior with the bat, scoring 72 off 58 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Tabraiz Shamsi (3-17) and Dwaine Pretorius (3-17) were the stand-out bowlers for South Africa, claiming three wickets each. Anrich Nortje also returned with impressive figures of 2 for 27 in his four overs.

In reply, the Proteas lost Quinton de Kock (12), Reeza Hendricks (11), and Rassie van der Dussen (16) cheaply. Amid the pressure situation, Temba Bavuma played a run-a-ball knock of 46 to bail his team out of trouble. In the process, the captain added 47 runs for the fourth wicket with Aiden Makram before the latter got out on 19.

South Africa needed 30 off the last three overs and lost Bavuma and Pretorius (0) in consecutive deliveries to slip to 112/6. Amid the pressure situation, David Miller and Kagiso Rabada stepped up to the plate to take their team over the line.

Requiring 15 in the final over, Miller (23* off 13) slammed Lahiru Kumara for two sixes while Rabada (13* off 7) hit a boundary to take South Africa home with one ball to spare.

Cricket experts on Twitter lauded Miller and Rabada for holding their nerves in the pressure situation to ensure South Africa’s four-wicket win.
