T20 World Cup 2021: Cricket fraternity reacts as David Warner’s 65 helps Australia beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets

October 28, 2021, saw Australia taking on Sri Lanka in Dubai in the 22nd match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Both teams were coming on back of victories in their first matches of the tournament.

Aaron Finch of Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka made 35 runs each. Bhanuka Rajapaksa made 33* as Sri Lanka put on 154/6 in 20 overs. Adam Zampa with 2/12 was the pick of Aussie bowlers though Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins also took two wickets apiece.

In reply, Australian openers Finch and David Warner added 70 runs for the first wicket as Kusal Perera dropped a sitter when Warner was on 18 runs to give him a life that he so much needed to get back into form.

While Finch fell to Hasaranga for 37 runs, Warner carried on to make 65 with 10 fours to his name. Steve Smith remained unbeaten on 28 to take Australia past the finishing line with Marcus Stoinis (16*) for company, as the Kangaroos won the match in 17 overs and 7 wickets to spare.

Adam Zampa was named the Player of the Match.

The cricket fraternity lauded the Australian team’s clinical performance and also praised David Warner for finally getting amongst some runs.
