Mahmudullah blamed poor batting for Bangladesh's 8-wicket loss to England.
As England remains unbeaten in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 so far, captain Eoin Morgan said that it has been a "huge compliment" of the progress made by his team in white-ball cricket in recent times after they crushed Bangladesh by 8 wickets in Abu Dhabi.
In their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 opener, England recorded a massive win over the defending champions West Indies, and on Wednesday, October 26, they yet again produced a clinical performance to beat Bangladesh by 8 wickets with 35 balls to spare in Abu Dhabi.
Morgan said at the post-match presentation ceremony: “It’s a huge compliment to how far our white-ball cricket, in general, has come along, a lot of players involved in the 2019 World Cup success and that’s lent itself to T20 cricket as well.”
He said of his bowlers, “The bowlers have started the tournament exceptionally well, they’ve adapted really well again today, very disciplined and backed up with good catching and ground fielding.”
Morgan added, “It’s nice for him (Jason Roy) and Dawid (Malan) to get some time at the wicket. The way Jason plays is so imposing, makes it difficult to set fields, so great to see him in good touch.”
Meanwhile, the explosive opener Jason Roy played a spectacular knock of a 38-ball 61 (5x4s, 3x6s) to make his 50th T20I appearance memorable, as England chased down the paltry 125 in just 14.1 overs to give their net run rate a huge boost in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.
Roy, who was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock, said: “A lot of credit to our bowlers again. Want to get off to as good a start as possible, but these pitches can be quite hard to do so. Today I hit a few gaps but it’s definitely a case of keeping wickets in hand and then powering through the back end.”
The opener also said his ability to face spin has improved a lot while admitting that the T20 game has changed over the years. He concluded, “Today was a big test, so I had to use all the skills I’ve learned. You grow up a tiny bit; at the start of my career it was sporadic T20s here and there, nice to get into more of a routine now.”
On the other hand, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad said his team didn’t have a good start with the bat and that cost them the game against England on a good wicket.
Mahmudullah said, “It was a good wicket but we didn’t start well and didn’t have any partnerships in the middle either. We’ve been lacking a good start, on these wickets it gets difficult later on.”
He concluded, “We are more skilled hitters than power hitters, we don’t want to change that because we believe we can post good totals. We need to reassess and come up with a good plan.”
