Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka in their first match of the Super 12s stage.
Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad admitted that there were few chances, which the Tigers failed to make them count and hope to come back stronger against England after his team suffered a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka on Sunday (October 24) in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.
Putting in to bat first in their first match of the Super 12s stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Bangladesh managed to post a total of 171/4 against Sri Lanka on the back of brilliant knocks of 62 and 57 from Mohammad Naim and Mushfiqur Rahim, respectively, in Sharjah.
Well, defending the total, Bangladesh left Sri Lanka struggling at 79/4 in the 10th over of the innings, but Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa played knocks of 80 and 53 respectively to take the young Lankan side over the line with 7 balls to spare and 5 wickets in hand on Sunday.
Following the defeat, Mahmudullah said Bangladesh would learn from their loss to Sri Lanka in Sharjah and come back stronger in the next games in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.
Mahmudullah said after the game: “Batters did a great job. Liton and Naim gave us a very good start. Naim played a brilliant innings to hold the innings together. Mushy played brilliant innings. We lost a few chances. Would like to correct those things in the next game.”
He concluded, “Watching last few games here, we felt extra spinner was a good option. We missed a couple of chances - would've been a different story. Hopefully, we can put up a good game against them (England).”
Noteworthy, Bangladesh will take on England in their next game in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Wednesday, October 27, in Abu Dhabi.
