T20 World Cup 2021: WATCH – Aiden Markram plucks absolute stunner to get rid of Steve Smith

Markram’s brilliance on the field brought the Proteas back in the contest.

South Africa’s Aiden Markram on Saturday (October 23) once again proved why he is rated among the best fielders in world cricket.

In the first game of the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 stage, Markram produced a spectacular catch to get rid of Australia’s star batter Steve Smith.

Chasing 119 to win, Australia were cruising with Smith and Glenn Maxwell at the crease before Markram’s brilliance on the field brought the Proteas back in the contest.

During the 15th over of Australia’s innings, Smith pulled a delivery from Anrich Nortje to an empty mid-wicket region. However, Markram made agile movement and ran across from long-on, dived horizontally to grab an absolute stunner.

Steve Smith got out on 35 while Maxwell for 18 in the very next over as South Africa reduced Australia to 81/5.
