Kaif hopes Virat Kohli will continue India's winning record against Pakistan.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif said the Indian cricket team is the clear favorite to beat Pakistan in their much-anticipated clash at the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 on October 24 in Dubai.
The Men in Blue have a great record against arch-rivals Pakistan in both the ODI (5-0) and T20 (5-0) World Cups, with the Men in Green yet to win a match in either the World Cup or T20 World Cup.
Well, Kaif said that he isn’t a huge fan of records, but is confident that Virat Kohli – who is captaining Team India for the first and last time in the ICC T20 World Cup – would like to continue the winning tradition over the old foes when they will meet on October 24 in the ongoing tournament.
However, the former cricketer has admitted that nothing is predictable in the T20 format, but still, he is not hoping for any surprises in the biggest clash of the T20 World Cup 2021 since Team India is well prepared for the conditions in Dubai.
Kaif told Zee News: “India has always dominated Pakistan in the World Cup, a record that is there on the papers. However, I'm not a huge fan of records and I'm sure neither is the Indian team and they want to see what happens on the pitch on the given day.”
The former batter continued, “The team is well prepared with Virat Kohli making the plans, and then there is MS Dhoni too now as a mentor. India will have an upper hand going into the contest because they are in Dubai for about two months now and the players are used to the surface.”
He concluded, “If Pakistan manages to beat India, I'll personally be very surprised because they don't have a strong unit as that of India. Anything can happen in T20 cricket, but if we look at the names in the Indian camp, the current form or how to handle a pressure situation, the team stands prepared.”
