Gibbs isn't sure West Indies would be able to defend the title.
Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has picked India and England as two of his favorites to win the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and Oman later this year.
However, Gibbs also said Pakistan has also chances in the T20 World Cup 2021, owing to their unpredictability, but was unsure of the West Indies’ chances to defend the title, particularly if the surfaces offer turns in the UAE and Oman.
The showpiece event will be played from October 17 to November 14 in the UAE and Oman and Gibbs said the team’s chance will totally depend on the conditions.
Gibbs told Cricket Pakistan, “The unpredictability of Pakistan, they are always going to be in the mix. India and England as well. A lot depends, I think, on the wickets. If it is going to turn a little bit, I don’t think the West Indies will be as dangerous as they are.”
He further added, “West Indies like the ball coming on to the bat and they like wickets that don’t turn. So even if there is a little bit of spin, it won’t suit the West Indies.
Recently Sri Lanka won the T20I series against India while Bangladesh stunned the world by winning the T20I series 4-1 against Australia at home, so nobody can predict what would happen in the global event later this year, felt the former South African batsman.
Gibbs signed off by saying, “So, definitely England, Pakistan, India for now. You never know Sri Lanka or maybe even Bangladesh. It all depends on how the conditions are going to be like.”
