Amid the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, veteran South African batsman Faf du Plessis has suggested a two-week quarantine period for players before and after the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 as he feels it is the way to stage the showpiece event as per schedule in Australia later this year.

Cricketing action, like other sports, is being shut down for more than two months now due to the ongoing deadly outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic which led to lockdown in the major parts of the globe in order to curb the spread of the life-threatening virus.

With there still no certainty regarding when the game will resume, England is planning to resume games behind closed doors while the fate of the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2020 to be held in Australia in October-November is also under the dark clouds.

Many cricket series has been postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19, however, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to take any call regarding the future of the T20 World Cup 2020.

During a recent Facebook live session with Bangladesh’s ODI captain Tamim Iqbal, former Proteas captain admitted that he is not sure that when the game will resume while highlighting the travel issue for the ICC event even if Australia is less affected by the COVID-19.

Du Plessis told Tamim during the Facebook session: “I am not sure... reading that traveling is going to be an issue for a lot of countries and they are talking about December or January. Even if Australia is not affected like other countries, to get people from Bangladesh, South Africa, or India where there is more danger, obviously it’s a health risk to them.”

In several countries, including South Africa, Australia, and India, the travel restrictions have been imposed due to the COVID-19 crisis and the veteran joked that traveling by boat is not an option at all.

The 35-year-old signed off by saying, “But you can go in before the tournament [for] two weeks isolation and then play the tournament and afterward two weeks isolation.”
