Lara is currently playing in the Road Safety World Series.
The upcoming seventh edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2020 is still around eight months away, but the showpiece event has already created strong buzz with teams having started to finalize their final squad for the event to be held in Australia from October 18 to November 15, 2020.
The T20 World Cup 2020 is quite some time away but it has started to weave magic with many cricket legends and experts have predicted the winner for the coveted title later this year.
Recently, West Indies legend Brian Lara, who is currently in India, leading the West Indies Legends in the Road Safety World Series – where his team has lost both the games they have played so far, has also picked his favorites for the upcoming T20 World Cup trophy.
However, the batting great came up with three choices, saying India will be a force but Australia will be tough to beat at home. He also named his home side and defending champions West Indies (the only team to win the World T20 title twice) among the top contenders for the coveted trophy in Australia.
But he felt West Indies’ inconsistency could be a problem for them to defend the trophy later this year, though, he said the 7th season of the mega event would be a great event in Australia.
Lara told ESPNCricinfo, “I think India is going to be a force to reckon with. Australia at home… it’s not going to be an easy World Cup for anyone. Australia is going to be worried about India and the West Indies, West Indies are going to be worried about everybody because of their inconsistency sometimes. So it’s going to be a great World Cup to look at.”
Noteworthy, the West Indies Legends have two matches left now against Australia and Sri Lanka in the ongoing Road Safety World Series in India.
