The IPL 2020 begins on March 29.
IPL 2020: BCCI releases complete fixtures for the league stage
There are spots to be filled in batting, bowling and even wicketkeeping slots in the upcoming ICC event and the most important of all is perhaps the vacancy for backup fast bowlers who will assist the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and maybe Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the T20I team for the tournament.
Therefore, Team COC picks five possible options in fast bowlers, who can book their tickets to the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, on the back of superlative performances in the Indian Premier League 2020.
Check out the 5 fast bowlers who could book their tickets to T20 World Cup via IPL 2020
SHARDUL THAKUR
‘My positivity and passion can help India at T20 World Cup’, says Shardul Thakur
Thakur has picked 21 wickets in 15 T20I matches for India, while he has 104 scalps in 90 T20 matches with an average of 24.62 and an economy of 8.39. There are critics of his bowling, given that he seems to go for runs under pressure given his T20I economy of 8.73. But he showed he can hold his nerves in recent T20I series against New Zealand.
PRASIDH KRISHNA
Team India is lacking a bowler who has extremely pace and Krishna clocks easily at over 145 kph every time he lets the ball go. He was the leading wicket-taker for Karnataka in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, with thirteen dismissals in seven matches.
The young lad needs to work on his radar as he has a tendency to give away runs; given that he is just 23-years-old, Krishna will learn with time as he will be sharing the dressing room with the likes of Pat Cummins and Lockie Ferguson in KKR camp, two world-renowned express pacers. This might also give him a ticket to ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
KHALEEL AHMED
WATCH- Shikhar Dhawan, Khaleel Ahmed and Kuldeep Yadav have fun at the NCA
Khaleel has 73 wickets in 48 T20 matches with an economy of 7.96. in 10 matches in IPL, he has 19 scalps playing for Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has the advantage of being a left-handed seamer, something Indian team is lacking in its arsenal, given that he brings a different angle of attack in the bowling squad.
A brilliant performance for SRH in upcoming IPL 2020, might get the selectors interested in taking him to Australia for the ICC event.
NAVDEEP SAINI
NZ v IND 2020: Navdeep Saini reveals how his life changed after making debut for Indian team
He can be quite a handful on hard pitches in Australia during the ICC T20 World Cup which will provide him with bounce going with his express pace. He needs to have a very good IPL 2020 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in order to have a chance to go down under and play in the ICC event. Saini has shown he has the character to come good in any situation and ability to pick wickets when most needed.
DEEPAK CHAHAR
Deepak Chahar aims to be selective about his playing schedule after sustaining stress fracture
A young and strong pacer, Chahar tends to swing the ball at the start and was used exclusively for the same during his maiden stint with Chennai Super Kings by MS Dhoni in 2018. However, Dhoni then tasked him with bowling in death as well in IPL 2019 and Chahar has developed into a complete fast bowler capable of removing the top order, as well as the tailenders with quite an ease.
His performance in the IPL 2020 for CSK will be important given that the selectors will have a keen eye on him, possibly as a good partner for Jasprit Bumrah, who is excellent in death overs, while Chahar takes care at the front with the new ball.
