Indian players dropped four catches, prompting Kaur to demand better focus in the upcoming matches.
The Women in Blue defeated Bangladesh by chasing 137 runs in 16.5 overs. However, the team dropped four catches, prompting Kaur to demand better focus in the upcoming matches.
She expressed satisfaction with the overall performance and backed her players to bounce back in the next outing.
"We've worked on our fielding but we dropped catches. They are our best fielders, but sometimes it happens. We just need to keep working and keep catching balls so we get into good positions. We have fumbled, but hopefully we show our best next game," Harmanpreet said after the match.
Looking ahead to the next Group A fixture against Australia, Harmanpreet Kaur described the six-time champions as one of their strongest and best competitors. She believes securing a victory against them would significantly elevate the team's confidence.
"All set for Australia, one of our best oppositions. We know in these tournaments when every game is a must-win, you have to give your best. We'll get a lot of confidence if we win that," she stated.
Harmanpreet added that her team draws inspiration and confidence from breaking barriers during their previous ODI World Cup triumph against Australia in Navi Mumbai.
Opener Shafali Verma hit 34-ball 53 to anchor India’s chase. Her match-winning knock earned her the Player-of-the-Match award.
Reflecting on her innings, Shafali said: "Very happy with the way I batted. Good confidence. I just tried to hit boundaries off bad balls, nothing different. I tried to choose the right ball to go big and take a single if not."
The right-hander, however, expressed disappointment at not converting her half-century into a longer innings.
Shafali is always ready to step in with the ball and thanked captain Harmanpreet Kaur for the confidence and field placements.
"I used to bowl with the new and old ball in the nets. I'm there to do whatever the team needs. Thanks to Harman di for giving me good fields and confidence," she remarked.
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana rued the missed opportunities despite creating chances and reckoned they were 15-20 runs short.
"We created a lot of chances but couldn't grab them, so India took the game away. We bowled well. We were 15-20 runs short. We got a good powerplay but couldn't carry on," Nigar said.
